Field Studio Architects
Field Studio is a small architectural practice based in South Devon. Our mission is to deliver high quality, modern and sustainable design to the widest possible market. In our view, too often architecture is seen as a luxury beyond the reach of ordinary people. Field Studio is owned and operated by James Risebero (BaHons Barch ARB). James has worked previously in some of the UK's most prestigious firms including Foster and Partners and pioneers of environmental design, Feilden Clegg Bradley Studios.

In Devon James spent several years working for Gillespie Yunnie Architects on a range of projects, many involving the re-use of historically significant and listed buildings. You can find out more about James' background here. James set up Field Studio in 2013 in order to focus on the design and construction of a new house for himself and his family on a rural site outside Totnes.

Since then the office has been involved in numerous projects throughout the Southwest and further afield. Mkki is our small-building wing which has been constructing high-quality modular garden studios throughout the UK since 2012.
Services
It's important to remember that architects are experts at unlocking the potential of a site or building and can usually add substantially to the value of a property, far out-weighing the fees they charge.
There is quite a lot of information out there about the general benefits of employing an architect.
Please see the RIBA (Royal Institute of British Architects) guide here for example.
It almost goes without saying that a small office with low overheads can pass on substantial savings to the client.
I worked at Fosters in the mid 90's.
This was the era before the widespread use of Computer Aided Design (CAD) and we drew all the detailed design information for Canary Wharf Underground Station - in my opinion one of the last great Foster buildings - in ink on tracing paper, scratching out any mistakes with a razor blade.
By the end of my time at Fosters the whole office had swiched over to CAD.
I also worked on North Greenwich Transport Interchange (another Jubilee Line Extension project) and a new Social Studies Faculty building for Oxford University.
