Openstudio Architects was founded by Jennifer Beningfield in 2006 and has built a portfolio of projects whose poetic language intensifies a sense of being present. Their tactile designs quietly unfold through the fundamentals of time, light and space. Thoughtful details and carefully selected materials contribute to the sense of place, which is particular to the context and history of each project.
Openstudio is a RIBA Chartered Architecture practice, specialising in the design and delivery of contemporary projects from commercial and residential buildings to furniture and landscape design. In 2020, Openstudio were announced as joint winners of the RIBA and Homes for England Home of 2030 housing competition, to deliver housing suitable for an aging population.
The studio won the international open RIBA 2020 competition to design prototype housing across the UK in 2017. Openstudio has also been short-listed for the NLA New Ideas for Housing competition and the WAN House of the Year award.
