Alchemilla Architects Ltd is a RIBA Chartered Practice based in rural Somerset in the Blackdown Hills with easy access to Taunton and Chard and most of the South-West, currently working as far afield as Cornwall and Oxfordshire. Our work ranges from extensions and refurbishment projects to single houses and small housing estates. A development of high-end holiday lets, a conversion of a listed building to offices and a swimming pool are part of our current workload.
We work with listed buildings and in Conservation Areas, providing designs which will blend into a historic context as well as modern additions where appropriate. We provide an imaginative, personal service, tailored to the needs of our clients whether this means a "Grand Design" or a bespoke new garden room. As a RIBA Chartered Practice we follow a rigorous quality control procedure with all our projects being designed and checked by a Chartered Architect.
We see architecture as integral to the built environment, and pride ourselves in providing a full service from inception to completion.

Services
Alchemilla Architects has experience with many different building types.
From high-end residential, self-build houses, developer housing and extensions to village halls, offices, shops, hotels, restaurants and holiday lets.
But if you have something completely different in mind, please give us a call.
Whether you are after a "Grand Design" or just your very own special little building, we would love to hear from you.
Designing new buildings is only a very small part of what we do.
As achieving a reasonable level of energy efficiency is part of each project, we can provide advice whether you would like to convert your "energy-guzzling" 1960s bungalow into a beautifully efficient home or whether you need to minimise your business' energy bills.

It can be applied to domestic as well as non-domestic buildings and to new build as well as refurbishment.
Just to give an example, an average house in the UK, built to current building regulations standards will use up to 190kWh per square meter per year, the same building as a passive house will only use 15kWh! - A heating cost saving of 92%!
How can this be achieved?
By constructing an extremely well insulated and air-tight building and then making use of the heat created by people, appliances and the sun for pre-heating all incoming fresh air with the help of a heat-exchanger.
