Services
Our team is headed up by Fran Stacey who brings extensive knowledge and experience in restoration lime work and fine painting to the company.
We are committed to quality workmanship and customer satisfaction and will work with you to achieve the best finish.
We are based in Wiltshire, but are more than happy to travel anywhere in the UK.
Our client list is varied and we specialise in older and listed properties using distempers and material's appropriate to the period of the building.
Carrying on the traditions of old paint and plaster techniques such as wood graining, marbling and lime plastering.
This cottage was in a poor state of repair as the main roof was leaking and the roof on an adjoining cottage had collapsed.
After the main roof was fixed, we then re-plastered and re-pointed using lime.
Although some of the rooms, due to extensive water damage had to be completely stripped back to the bricks and re-plastered others were just patched up ready for decorating.
We then decorated using traditional paints including soft and casein distempers.
We also hand painted the kitchen and the built in furniture.
We offer all aspects of lime work to our clients, both internal and external working with traditional finishes.
We are specialists in lime plaster work from patching to installing replacement lathes and renders.
We have often seen whole ceilings that have been taken down unnecessarily when some strengthening would have been sufficient.
It is very important to get the mortar mix right for the particular type of period property.
Before any work is started we take a mortar sample and we analyse and match this to ensure a perfect finish which is sympathetic to the building.
We advise clients on the best course of action, this may involve removal of inappropriate finishes, we will always give the best, site-specific advice.
We can advise clients on the colour and type of paint appropriate for the age of their building and carry out all necessary research.
We also regularly work with paint conservators.
We can hand colour-match paint to existing samples.
Utilising our knowledge of historic paint, we make our own lime washes, distempers and linseed-oil paints.
The use of suitable paints on an older building is vital, enabling the fabric of the building to breathe and preventing moisture being trapped in the substrates of the property.
Mouldings and plasterwork can become clogged and hidden over time with the build up of paint.
We have many years' experience stripping, restoring and repairing architectural plasterwork.
Working closely with paint analysts and trustees of the Merchants House museum in Marlborough we were asked to recreate a scheme that had been discovered under layers of paint during conservation.
