Graham Carruthers and Jeremy Pilling first worked together in the mid 1980's as newly qualified Architects at JT Design Build, based above the Arnolfini on Bristol harbourside. In 1986, encouraged by the experience gained in this multi-disciplinary environment, Graham decided to set up as a sole practitioner working from his newly built home in Limpley Stoke near Bath.

In the Spring of 1987 Graham invited Jeremy to join him in partnership, launching as Graham Carruthers Partnership in the September. We set up business in a double bedroom (with en-suite print room) with the fabulously entertaining Sharon Rogers as our secretary to keep us well and truly off the straight and narrow.

We soon became established, picking up Country Club Hotel work at St Pierre and Redwood Lodge as well as the construction phase of the new David Lloyd Leisure Club at Long Ashton and a new school at Bradley Stoke.Graham's medical connections brought surgery work at Lisson Grove and Begbrook in Plymouth, and Wick near Bristol.

We are a team of innovative and approachable professionals and believe that developing strong relationships is key to building great places to live, work and play.

The phased project consisted of an insulated over-clad of the structure, an extension wing at first and second floor levels straddling an existing car park, and a complete internal refurbishment.
The refurbishment included the transformation of the unattractive central courtyard into a spacious and bright atrium caf.
The phased approach and meticulous planning enabled the works to be carried out with the building in occupation and without the need for temporary accommodation.
The scheme upgraded the premises to an EPC B rating.
Complex redevelopment of a 1950s office block in central London within Bloomsbury Conservation Area and adjacent to Greys Inn (Grade II* listed).
The scheme created 16,000sq ft over seven floors with core areas fitted-out to the highest standards.
Landlocked with only pedestrian access, the scheme required a high level of coordination during design and construction as materials, including steel-work for the new roof structure, had to be delivered through a pedestrian doorway off Old Holborn, possible only on Sundays.
New low-energy business park in Bristol.
Working for Midas Construction under a Design-Build contract, gcp provided the detailed design for a 4,000m2 new low-energy start-up business park at Filwood in Bristol, for Bristol City Council and the Homes and Communities Agency.
The business park offers a mixture of workshops, studio and office space for small and medium-sized businesses and was the first BREEAM outstanding development of its type in the South-West.
Located at Foundation Park adjacent to the football club's County Ground, the project included changing facilities and club room for the existing athletics track and a new Football Foundation funded 3G football pitch.
The building layout is rational and easy to navigate.
Common areas are generous in order to cope with high volumes of users, the building also incorporates a passenger lift.
With changing facilities on the ground floor, the first floor provides the main club room with facility for future subdivision, catering support and fantastic views of both the football pitch and athletics track.
