Do you require Passive House design services?
Feel free to contact us for a discussion.
Passive House or Passivhaus (German) is a standard of building design which looks at the art of keeping the heat in a building through efficient design, therefore reducing the energy needed to heat a building in the first place.
The standard was invented in Germany by Dr Wolfgang Feist and was set out as a collaborative research project to address unsustainable and unhealthy houses whilst keeping the construction economically viable.
By Michael McKay MCIAT, Certified Passive House Designer at NP Architects Ltd.
As we know, there are many variables to consider when evaluating cost, depending on the size, location and specification of a building.
The research project CEPHUS, in partnership with the European Commission, published a study and conducted a comparison on architecturally identical houses built to the lowest legal standards and the required material cost increase to facilitate the Passive House standard.
The results ranged from a 2% to 17% increase with an average of an 8% increase in build costs.
What fees do architects charge?
Architect's fees can vary considerably depending on the level of service, complexity, location and type of project required.
If you are getting competitive quotes you may wish to distinguish between RIBA Chartered Practices and other designers.
Anyone can with CAD software offer 'architectural services' but only architects can use the name architect and be an RIBA member.
Choosing a qualified architect can add considerable value and success to your project.
It is a common misconception that architects charge much more than other potentially less qualified designers.
