Igloo Architecture, is driven to transform the mediocre into the inspirational, the ugly into the beautiful, the boring into the fascinating. We enjoy nothing more than the excitement of seeing the design of a new project become real. Architecture is the only art form which touches all of us as we go about our lives. The two founding directors, with 40 years post-qualification experience between them, have set out to reinvent the architectural process.

We are committed to delivering to our clients the right scope and level of service for each individual project. The success of a project often derives at the outset from clarity of thought in the appointment of the architect.
Services
Established in 2008, Igloo Architecture was founded by Paul Crompton and Mark Lister who run the practice, who have a combined experience in architecture of 40 years.
They have gained a reputation for client commitment, delivery and a passion for creative and responsible architecture.
The two founding directors have often been described as 'like chalk and cheese' but the fusion of two very different personalities and sets of skills has resulted in a uniquely innovative approach to the delivery of architectural services.
Situated in a striking coastal location, the existing house had previously been extended in a piecemeal way and also had fallen into poor repair.
The clients well understood how special and unique the site was, and aspired to create their dream home.
After a previous attempt with another designer, they decided to give Igloo Architecture an opportunity to submit proposals.
Following a series of visits to the site and consultations with the clients Igloo began a process of rigorous analysis into what was at the root of the problem.
Conceived in the summer of 2008, this project was closely related to Igloo Architecture during the time of its formation.
Against all the odds we gained planning permission to develop a contemporary new building in the heart of a conservation area.
The scheme consisted of a supermarket at ground floor with two storeys of residential accommodation above.
We argued successfully that a pace-setting new building using high-quality materials would be justified because it would regenerate the area.
The site was occupied by a single-storey shopping mall which was not making the best use of the economic potential of the site.
To an architect the prospect of designing a new luxury house is like an artist being handed a blank canvas.
There are infinite possibilities at the outset but they must soon give way to the rigorous and informed process of actual design.
In this case the client wanted to achieve a visionary contemporary house with light airy spaces which combined the right balance between closed rooms and areas of open plan.
Because of the need to screen the proposed building from neighbouring properties and maintain privacy, the best way to organise the site soon became apparent.
Although our city centres have benefitted from investment and regeneration, yet if you walk for just five minutes from the centre you can still be confronted with decay and neglect in the buildings and the environment.
We know all too well the disillusionment and despair that follows.
So often a vicious circle results in the blighting of whole areas of our towns and cities.
At Igloo we feel passionately about the power of architecture to reverse this cycle and transform it into a virtuous circle where the spark of just one inspirational building can trigger regeneration.
