Services
Whitfield Architects is an independent family firm founded by Mark Whitfield, a chartered architect with over a decade of experience in residential, commercial and community architecture; and a particular interest in heritage and conservation.
From restoring listed buildings and creating beautiful new homes, to designing sports facilities, supermarkets and office schemes, Mark's experience is diverse and informs every project that we undertake.
Examples of his past work include The Courthouse on Deansgate in Manchester city centre, a stunningly restored grade-II-listed building that's now home to popular steak restaurant Hawksmoor and the Oddfellows Society of Friends; and Rutherford House, a new office building on Westlakes Science Park in Whitehaven.

Not every construction project needs an architect.
Some builders offer all-in-one solutions that can work well for straightforward changes to a building.
However, using a chartered architect can raise design standards and give you the confidence that your project is legal, safe and built exactly as it should be, including sourcing appropriate materials and solving complex challenges.
We're experts in obtaining planning permission and compliance with building regulations.
These are vital for the safety, quality and legality of a building - and also future property sales, to reassure buyers' surveyors and solicitors.

At Whitfield Architects, we not only care about designing homes you can feel proud of, but also providing a genuinely useful service.
We'll work with you to create designs that reflect the way you want to live; obtain the necessary local authority approvals such as planning permission and building regulations; and provide support during construction.
As an independent family business, we enjoy helping others create homes they love - not least because we've been through it ourselves.
We're seasoned self-renovators, so as well as helping produce the right design for you, we can offer a personal insight into the ins-and-outs of the process.

We love old buildings.
And we especially love giving old buildings new life through sympathetic yet vibrant conversions, restoring and showcasing the best bits while transforming them for modern use.
Whitfield Architects works with listed buildings and scheduled monuments; and within conservation areas in villages, towns and cities, developing appropriately designed architecture that respects and reflects the history of its surroundings.
This often includes using contemporary design techniques to enhance old buildings and help their quality shine through.
