Gaunt Francis Architects is a creative commercial design studio that equates business acumen and technical excellence with design creativity. Formed in 1997, the practice has delivered award-winning projects throughout the UK and abroad, from its offices in London and Cardiff. It celebrates collaborative working and has no single designer or design style but rather a collective enterprise that values collective endeavour.
The practice has an enviable reputation and track record in its four key work sectors - working, caring, living and learning. We strive for environmentally responsible, cost-efficient, beautiful places and buildings; passionately believing that good design will always create value.

Services
We deliver a bespoke service regardless of the scale or complexity of brief.
We usually deliver our work through one of three philosophies: Creating Places; Creating Buildings; and Creating Spaces.
We have a clear method of approaching masterplanning that has proven to be both successful and stimulating; we call this "Creating Places".
This process can be broken down into three distinct stages; Appreciating, Connecting and Designing.
We make sure that we understand the context of a project, by analysing, researching and mapping all the available data about a place.

Architecture is about much more than creating a functional, built environment.
The skill in creating value lies in how the design process can add to that functionality by producing great places and buildings that are beautiful, sustainable and maximise the client's investment.
Great places enrich our lives and lift our spirits.
We all like to live, work and play in harmonious surroundings that we feel secure in; can find our way round in, have the right scale and use natural materials.
Interventions in existing buildings and places need sensitive touches, to ensure existing value isn't lost and to ensure new value is added, not just for the owners but for users and visitors.

We spend a great deal of time getting to know our clients and their business plan.
We like to drill down deep into that plan - get under the skin of our clients - to fully understand their modus operandi, what makes them tick, and how we can best work with them.
Some clients have very simple plans which require little in the way of briefing but plenty of site analysis and design inspiration.
Others require intensive stakeholder participation, from CEO to junior assistant, and where audit trails and project champions play a key role.

Virtual reality is developing rapidly and has found many uses in all kinds of fields.
We have always embraced new technology at Gaunt Francis Architects, so we have invested in VR technology to create engaging and interactive architectural visualisation experiences and to ensure we remain at the forefront of innovation, whilst at the same time recognising there is value in the plurality of design tools at our disposal.
Although the tools of architectural communication have constantly evolved, recent technological change has allowed the rapid development of 3D building modelling.
