JM Architecture
Whether working to refurbish or extend traditional buildings, or designing contemporary structures, our goal is to create light and airy spaces that are comfortable and connect well with their surroundings. Our projects range from individual houses and extensions to commercial and industrial projects. As experienced architects in Dorset, we have also worked extensively with listed buildings.
Services
The principal, John Matthews, has spent over twenty-five years building his expertise in architecture, resulting in a thorough knowledge of building techniques and materials.
He has long-standing relationships with the local planning and building control departments, structural engineers, surveyors and builders.
This ensures easy access to the right skills and information throughout the process.
We always tailor our service to meet the needs of clients.
This can range from an initial consultation and sketch design to a comprehensive service that takes the project from commencement to completion.
The design of an extension need not necessarily follow that of the original building.
In fact, the local planning authority are not against the idea of contemporary extensions to buildings of historic interest.
Traditional buildings can be extended to provide contemporary accommodation, whilst retaining their character.
Sensitive design and careful attention to the use of materials can preserve and enhance the original.
Whether an additional storey, or a ground floor extension, these spaces can provide improved and flexible living accommodation to suit the clients lifestyle.
This is intended as a friendly guide, and clarification, of the design process.
It is not definitive, and intended for clients that may only commission building work once or twice in a lifetime.
Commercial clients, who regularly commission construction work, will usually be well versed in the design and procurement process.
The client must be able to identify and locate all boundaries pertinent to the location of the works.
This information must be passed on to the architect.
In most cases this is obvious.
