Argyle Design is a Cambridge-based, registered Architectural practice based just off the Histon Road, CB4. Our professional services support large and small projects across Cambridge, Cambridgeshire and surrounding counties. Currently, we have some exciting new build house projects on the board. Each new build project requires a planning application.
For instance, we can show you a walk round a bungalow design. Such a walk round recently enabled us to obtain planning permission. We showed the planners that our larger loft conversion design minimally impacted surrounding properties. The first company was the Baker Ward Partnership, which Phillip Ward founded in 1991 with Paul Baker. Paul departed overseas in 2000.
Since Phillip Ward lived in Argyle Street, the name changed to Argyle Design. Other local companies, e.g. Argyle Electrical, took their name from the street. At that time, this was a difficult market. Hence Argyle Design developed an additional service delivering CAD drawings to multi-disciplined practices.

Planning Permission often depends on how the building's external appearance fits with neighboring properties and the surroundings.
If Planning permission is required the local authority will require you to submit drawings with scaled elevations and floor plans, showing external finishes.
These drawings demonstrate how well the intended works fit the existing street scene.
Detailed notation document demonstrating the building will be built to current building regulation standards.
The property or land owner is ultimately responsible for complying with relevant planning requirements and building regulations.

Besides Argyle Design, you might require a structural engineer & possibly a mechanical or electrical consultant.
We know the appropriate local professionals, planners & building regulation inspectors.
Whether you require Planning permission depends on the location, size or height of your extension.
We usually answer that question during our first meeting.
We know the planners and processes at Cambridge and South Cambs councils.
Small domestic works just require a building notice.
To obtain this, just complete and submit a form to the relevant Building Control authority.

Their bungalow was a typical 1950's rather conservative design.
Now when you walk through and open the door to the rear extension, you're welcomed into a celebration of light and space.
We also delineated the kitchen and lounge areas not by walls but by using changes in ceiling heights and floor finishes within one large open plan space.
A traditional low level ceiling over the kitchen and a high sloping ceiling over the lounge created created two identifiable spaces.
We maintained the existing solid boundary wall with the neighbour's property.

Below are examples of our work including: office refurbishments, out-of-town retail, warehouses & distribution centres.
The original building incorporated one of the first atriums and use of Brise Soeil in the UK.
Alas, it was rather worse for wear, and unlettable.
However, there were problems.
The low floor to ceiling height made servicing each floor with modern-standard air conditioning and electrical services difficult.
The solution used the external wall column locations.
The services dropped between the existing structure and the new external wall on the front and rear of the building.

Both owners, if they agree to use a single Party Wall surveyor, i.e. we act as the agreed surveyor.
Alas, Party Wall Surveyors do not determine or decide a boundary's location.
Thus if you are in dispute with your neighbour, the boundary's location can only be resolved by an agreement between you and your neighbour.
Resolution can be a lengthy process, and extremely expensive if court action occurs.
However, archives and record photographs can shorted the process.
Good information about the the Party Wall Act etc 1996 includes the government's website, which includes an explanatory booklet: Party Wall etc Act 1996 explanatory booklet.
