Living Space Architects
Living Space Architects is an award-winning chartered RIBA practice based in Exeter, Devon. Established in 2004 by Kirsty Curnow-Bayley and Stuart Bayley, we have a passion for creating well-designed, imaginative and exciting projects that are both environmentally and socially sustainable. We specialise in sustainable contemporary design and the alteration and adaption of historic buildings.

By using local materials, maintaining an environmental approach and designing and building in an innovative way that compliments the surroundings, we aim to keep the South West special. Working with Living Space Architects has made our project perfect. At our initial visit Stuart had the ability to draw plans to scale listening to my ideas and incorporating his.

We had overall vision which has now been finished and works perfectly for our family. We had a really positive experience working with Living Space Architects. They came recommended and we were very impressed by their broad repertoire of styles in their previous work.
Services
Our designs for new build homes take inspiration from the landscape they sit in and the way our clients live.
We don't have a set style; we love getting to know you and creating designs that take you further than your own imagination.
As well as designing a beautiful new home for you, we also have a fantastic record of achieving planning consent on difficult sites, even where others have failed and we can also help you control your budget and manage the contractor with your builder to get your build completed on time.
We believe buildings should be sustainable as a matter of course and not just a tag on green extra.
That's sometimes difficult to achieve, but we encourage our clients wherever possible to create developments that are as sustainable as possible within their budget.
Our expertise and experience of using sustainable technologies and a fabric first approach helps our clients achieve this, even with older and listed buildings.
This includes using natural insulation materials that breathe, combined with the latest technology to heat and ventilate your home.
Specialising in building conservation and the refurbishment and extension of listed and historic buildings, Living Space Architects enjoys working in a modern rustic style, and introducing new contemporary elements into a historic setting.
While listing introduces a greater degree of control, it does not mean a building should be frozen in time but calls for well-informed and intelligent management of changes.
Both directors have a wealth of experience working within conservation areas throughout the South West and London and Kirsty Curnow Bayley is an RIBA Conservation Registrant.
Living Space Architects have an huge amount of experience of extending and refurbishing existing buildings.
We offer an initial sketch design service to help kick start your project and give advice on design options, planning issues and costs.
Our designs are site specific drawing from the existing architecture and landscape - we do not have a specific style.
If you think you could benefit from one of our design sessions, call our team in our Exeter office for some help and advice.
We combine our commitment to sustainable buildings and communities with high-quality design that meets clients' budgets and needs.
We were finalists in the RIBA McCarthy & Stone Re-imagining Ageing competition, where our designs challenged concepts around housing for retirement and explored the possibilities for new types of communities and new places to live (see our drawings below).
This lead to publication of our schemes and involvement in research into this specialist aspect of housing.
We have worked with McCarthy & Stone, Redrow and Pegasus Life as well as smaller local developers, creating designs for housing, Extra Care projects, retirement villages and apartments.
