Alex McIntyre founded the practice in 2003 with the aim of designing thoughtful and elegant buildings for discerning clients. Specialising in new country houses and alterations to historic buildings, the practice has gained its reputation for successfully delivering beautifully constructed traditional & contemporary design through both word of mouth and receipt of regional & national architectural awards.

Alex's background as a commissioned architect for English Heritage informs our approach to both sensitive new buildings and works to historic buildings within heritage based environments. Our staff of RIBA chartered architects and architectural technologists work alongside an established network of engineers, surveyors and specialist consultants who share a commitment to deliver projects of the highest quality, on time and on budget.

We work throughout Nottinghamshire, Cheshire, Rutland, Leicestershire, Northamptonshire, Derbyshire and Lincolnshire. Alex McIntyre Architect's success stems from our desire to comprehensively understand our client's requirements and craft buildings that are exactly tailored to their needs.
Services
Built in the heart of a conservation area, The Court is a contemporary interpretation of vernacular farm buildings which received an RIBA award.
The traditional form and materials of the exterior give way to a strikingly modern interior wrapped around a private courtyard.
The latest technologies of lighting and home automation are incorporated to compliment the client's contemporary taste.
A large eighteenth century listed former hunting lodge is brought back to life.
The interiors were reordered and refurbished, and its dark cramped service wing is replaced with a light filled contemporary addition to provide a focus for modern family life.
The blend of contemporary elements with reference to the materials of the listed fabric provides a sympathetic synthesis of old and new.
Sensitive conversion of Grade II listed stables (1870 Salvin) to create a new base for the Queen's Royal Lancers & Nottinghamshire Yeomanry Military Museum.
The works included the careful insertion of a new lift and staircase within the listed structure.
Thoresby Estate is included on English Heritage's Register of Historic Parks and Gardens of Special Historic Interest at Grade 1.
We have advised the Estate on the repair, conservation and creative re-use on much of their historic buildings and landscape.
Alex McIntyre has worked as a commissioned architect for English Heritage and has been involved with a variety of secular and ecclesiastical grant schemes for English Heritage under the Repair Grants for Places of Worship scheme and the Heritage Lottery Fund.
We have particular expertise in the conservation and repair of traditional buildings, and in integrating contemporary, sustainable technologies alongside their historic fabric.
In addition to the full architectural service we carry out detailed evaluations of the condition of historic buildings based upon our specialist knowledge of traditional materials and techniques.
