With over 20 years of experience in the construction industry, John Verkaik is an RIBA Chartered Architect with a long history of creating architectural designs that offer both style and functionality across the whole of Kent. Our small office in Folkestone means small overheads and therefore competitive rates, but we handle projects both big and small.
We have a lot of contacts in the building industry to ensure a smooth process, and we can take all of those bureaucratic nightmares - such as Planning constraints and building regulations - out of your hands. So what are you waiting for?

Services
Often when you're moving into a new home or scoping out a new kitchen, you need to re-calibrate the dream to the reality.
You need to compromise.
But why should you compromise?
Why shouldn't you have a construction that meets your needs and fits your lifestyle?
That's where JV Chartered Architects comes in.
In the 20 years that we've been providing architectural services, we've developed a wide portfolio that ranges from kitchen extensions to large schools.
What we do is create designs that bridge the gap between what you want and the budget you have to do it.

This project entailed the conversion of one large two tiered flat into two separate units within a grade 2 listed building in a conservation area.
An additional external balcony to the rear was design to connect the kitchen diner to the garden.
The challenge was to preserve the essence of the fabric of a historic building whist fulfilling the client's requirements.
Which has been successfully achieved and Planning and Listed Building Consent granted.

One of the main problems with the existing house was three level changes from front to back.
One in the kitchen, and the other in the Utility room.
Access to the garden could only be achieved via a side door or through the conservatory down a dangerously steep ramp.
Our challenge was to design a scheme that allowed level access throughout.
By changing the position of the utility room we created a large open plan wheel chair friendly kitchen/diner with views and access to the garden.
We incorporated rise and fall cooking hob and sink, drop down ironing board and accessible storage space.

The client wished for a larger kitchen and originally opted for extending the old kitchen.
Once we had discussed the brief and analysed the client's requirements we suggested redesigning their old conservatory space for this purpose.
The conservatory was large but too hot in summer and too cold in winter.
By adding a new well insulated roof with carefully position large Velux windows and knocking through to the existing Utility room we were able to create a huge open plan space with views and access to the garden that could be use all year round.

This project will provide the clients with a new, well-lit double-height space with a dining area which will include a more generous staircase and a wood burning stove.
The front single-storey extension will include converting the existing external store into an ambulant accessible wet room with WC.
