Wiles & Maguire
We are award winning architects skilled in both the conservation of historic buildings and their sensitive adaptation for modern use. Since 2001 we have built a national reputation for excellence from our modest York base. Visit our different pages to learn more about the work we do with churches, country houses, sites of industrial archaeology and some very unusual 20th century listed buildings.

We are extremely proud that our Fillingham Castle Gatehouse project has won the 2021 Civic Trust Awards (Conservation section ). Our work at the half timbered Robin Hood's Cottage was also 'Highly Commended' in the same awards.

Each commission is unique and challenging but with ecclesiastical design experience extending back more than 30 years we understand the issues facing a modern parish.
We have a lot of inspiration to offer your church or chapel be it reordering and regeneration, conservation repairs, community facilities, re-lighting, sustainable design, negotiating with the HLF and fundraising generally.
Andrew Wiles is the inspecting architect for over 60 Churches ranging in age and complexity from small rural Norman chapels to Medieval Minsters and busy modern inner city churches.
We understand the challenges of a modern heritage attraction and have worked with several National Trust properties and Museums to sensitively install shops, restaurants and offices without impacting a site's significance.
When major conservation and repair is needed we have arranged for these works to become temporary visitor attractions themselves, through the creation of observation gantries, tours and interpretation displays.
The National Trust properties of Lyme Hall and Dunham Massey near Manchester have been keeping us busy for many years with inspections, repairs and alterations.
We have always had a passion for listed buildings of the 20th Century and relish the special challenges encountered when conserving modern materials such as concrete, steel and plastics.
This interest has also led to work at historic industrial sites such as coal mines, cotton mills, iron foundries, steam engine houses and water mills.
Our reputation in this area began with a ground breaking 3 year project to rescue a crumbling early concrete church in Goldthorpe (S.Yorks).
This project has won many awards and has led to many similar referrals and lecture engagements to universities, EASA and ASCHB.
